Financially wise

Went to aldi today, got a gallon of milk, 2 lb carrots, two beefy onion mixes, and a head of cabbage, and five yogurts....total of 7 dollars. Went to the Dollar Store, spent 29 dollars for Easter for the teens, and went to Lowe's, spent 48 dollars on four tomato plants, two kiwi, peony, a bag of mulch, a bag of dirt....I also planted all the seeds we had in a container in the kitchen. We will have peppers, sunflowers, apple, and cucumber, pumpkin and squash at some point.

Laundry

Four loads of laundry washed this morning in cold water, and hung outside to dry. Ching Ching for my finances!

Dinner 3/14

pork chops (pack of four) found at Food Lion on mark down, covered with some generic BBQ sauce (Sharp Shopper 0.99) in the crock pot, made saffarin cous cous, long grain rice for the kids (on top of the stove, not instant), and asparagus, zuchinni and bean mixture in olive oil for dinner (Sharp Shopper find 0.50). It was awesome!

Compost

We have been faithfully using the compost pile for about three months. Our recycling project has gone extremely well, and hoping that we can start using our own bags, instead of store ones when we go shopping. Since I get paid every two weeks, there's no shopping this week, until next Thursday. We still have carrots, bananas, blue berries, and apples for fresh fruit and veggies. With all of our other veggies in the freezer, we should be good until I get to the store next week.

Laundry

Managed to get three loads of laundry hung outside today, I stopped using my dryer a few months ago. We got a dryer rack from a friend, and use it almost on a daily basis when the weather is not cooperating outside. But it's been a beautiful day, and the sunshine is free!

Dinner 3/12

Dinner is in the crock pot, a very small beef roast (found at Food Lion marked down to 3.00), five carrots, an onion, six potatoes, two cloves of garlic, 1/4 cup of black pepper and garlic marinade....it's going to smell good in a little while!

Dinner 3/11

A complete curve off the frugal train to say the least. I worked the night before, and had a big assignment due for class, we ended up getting take out to feed the crew while I was getting my class work finished. Oh well. Today's another day.

Dinner 3/10

Using a pound and a half of ground beef, we are having taco's tonight, using the left over lettuce and tomato in the fridge, with a taco kit bought at Sharp Shopper for 1.49....easy dinner with no fuss, using some left over pepper jack cheese (this has been hard to get rid of, won't buy it again).

Update on March Challenge

Having to look over my blog, we did spend 40 dollars a week or two ago that was accounted into March. So, from our original 250 dollars, we have 80 left to spend for the month, I guess this is going to consist of milk, fruit, and any needed HBA.

March grocery challenge

Spent a total of 130 dollars at three different stores, Sharp Shopper, Aldi's and the day old bread store. We ended up having Oscar Meyer Hot dogs (0.99 at sharp shopper), french freis (1.49 for two lbs, Sharp Shopper), and strawberries (lb 1.79 at Sharp Shopper).

Pay Day

Most of my monthly obligations are paid, getting ready to go to the grocery store, and put 250 dollars in my savings account! Eggs, with the last of the various peppers, last few slices of cheddar cheese, and half a tomato for breakfast for Gary and I.

Dinner 3/7

Tonight, we are having spaghetti, pasta sauce with ground beef, along with some peppers chopped that need to be used up, half an onion. Sarah made cookies (Sharp Shopper find, 50 cents) for dessert. The ground beef was bought marked down for 2.00 a package (one pound), pasta was 69 cents a pound, and the pasta sauce (unknown price). Peppers (red, yellow, orange were 1.19 a pound) were from two weeks ago.

Today's plan

Since I work tonight, I had some class stuff to do and attempted to get the kitchen cleaned up. I made lunch for Gary and I, steak sandwiches, with some things that needed to be used up, like cheese, onion, various peppers, lettuce and tomato. Tonight, the kids are going to have some cereal, milk, banana and yogurt...the fruit needs to go, and the yogurt has been hanging around a while.

Took out the trash (2 bags), and a huge bucket of recyclables...our cost is 50.00 a year for access to the landfill, home pick up with a local trash service is 30 dollars a month! We are not charged by the bag at the landfill, and just started recycling almost a year ago. We used to have a 13 gallon bag every day prior to our recycling.

Things that need to be used

We have an abundance of yogurt, some veggies (peppers, onions), some sandwich rolls, turkey, and corn that need to be used today and tomorrow! I think I'm going to cut the peppers up and store them in the freezer for another meal. The turkey will become sandwiches today for hubby and I, seeing the kids are in school.

Weekend meal

I roasted a turkey over the weekend, with egg noodles, home made gravy and corn. Didn't get to post as I was working on my research paper for class. We ended up with three plates of sliced turkey as leftovers, and the kids had one of those for dinner last night for sandwiches. Tonight, we are making home made mac and cheese, using the left over egg noodles and some deli cheese that had been hanging around in the fridge.

No shopping this week!

We have spent a total of 40 dollars for March, leaving us with 210 for the rest of the month. I do not plan on going to the store this week, except maybe to get milk. Gotta keep our expenses down to make sure that our bills are getting paid, and use up the "lost things" we tend to have hanging around.

Dinner 3/3

We just put the turkey in the oven, with some butt pats, various spices, onion, garlic, poultry seasoning, thyme, and sage. Hoping to have cous cous, egg noodles (for kids), pear crisp (found canned pears in pantry, will add some granola and bake in oven), and some steamed veggies (we have so many in the freezer). With the turkey cooking, we should have enough left over to make soup stock, sliced turkey sandwiches, and extra turkey for left overs tomorrow!

March Challange

Yesterday, Gary took me to the grocery store. We spent 40 dollars, bought four bottles of shampoo (0.89), one bottle of dandruff shampoo(1.99), three various colored peppers (1.19 lb), a gallon of fat free milk, a half gallon tub of ice cream (marked down 0.99), chicken noodle soup (0.99), a package of deli cheese (3.00), 16 pk of single serve Hawaii punch (for sick kids 1.99), 4 pack of nine lives (1.69), and sandwich rolls (1.69).

Dinner 3/3

Roasted turkey, gravy, steamed veggies, and maybe rice. We have finally defrosted the one that was put in the Fridge on Tuesday!!

Thursday, March 1, 2012

dinner 3/1

Ground beef taco’s, pepper jack cheese, refried beans, soft taco shells, salsa for dinner, the kids will love it, it's easy to prepare and doesn't take a lot of time.
